Jordan Minton, Support King
We had a great time riding with Norma today through Western Kentucky. As an avid cyclist she had a lot of knowledge to pass on to us. The last thing I pulled from her today was to be thankful of our support driver, Jordan. When most cross-country cyclists wake up, they break down their tents and cook breakfast. Then they have to clean up and go find water. When I wake up, I pack my bag and shove it on him while he scrambles to get us some ice so that our water isn’t too warm.
It may sound like an easy job to drive a truck across the country, but there is a lot extra involved. After agreeing to what sounded like a vacation, Jordan now plans our lunches and water stops and comes and rescues us from maintenance issues with regularity. He is a strong believer in the fact that things happen for a reason, and I am glad that he was put with us this summer. All I have to do is ride when we have a champ like him driving the ‘Burban.
Shout-outs are also deserved to Justin, our route planner and wilderness expert, Bob and the staff of Etown Schwinn, Justin at Pedal and Powder of Pagosa Springs, the Vittitow family, the Jury parents, Mitch’s family for the support today, and a couple dozen churches, fire stations, and schools that we have imposed upon. We have had so much support with equipment, lodging, advice, fundraising, encouragement, and inspiration from so many people that I would run out of hosting space if I thanked them all. I am so proud to have gotten this far and I hope that we will have the strength to leave home for the final haul.
